Next Meeting, April 14, 2025 at 7:00 PM

It’s that time again. It’s the time we reach deep into our iPhones and iPads and recognize our favorite apps. And, we’re not talking about the apps from Apple that come with every device. We’re talking about the apps you’ve discovered, downloaded, and come to rely on that do things to make your iPhone or iPad indispensable. What apps do you use all the time that have solved a problem for you or that you’ve used to make your iPhone or iPad so useful that you can’t live without? Some apps are free but many really good ones are paid apps that reward the developers for their hard work in creating something that we can appreciate.

Let’s spend our next meeting sharing our favorite apps and letting our LAPUG members know what makes your devices work for you.

iPhone Apps

Most of us have added apps to our iPhones and iPads over the years and we keep adding them and adding them. Sometimes, we even take the time to organize them….and sometimes, we don't. This month, we'll spend some time going over options for app organization and we'll review how to tell if there are apps that are taking up space but are no longer needed. How much space do these apps actually use? How much space do you need? We'll also talk about Focus and how you can use just the apps you need when you need them.

And, of course, we'll review the new announcements from Apple, which might be just what you've been waiting for!

iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia have recently introduced several new features. Some are more noticeable, while others are more subtle or even hidden. Some changes have raised questions among users of everyday apps. We’ll explain these changes and how to adjust them if desired.

Given the recent news about the new administration’s apparent overreaching changes that may affect US citizens’ security and financial information, we’ll also discuss steps you can take to secure yourself online with various institutions and Apple’s iCloud.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the fires in the L.A. area. This is an unprecedented set of events that many of us were not prepared for. If you know anyone who was impacted by the loss of their home or property, we urge you to reach out to help them in any way you can. You can also donate clothes or food to various shelters, the Red Cross, and neighborhood organizations that will take care of distributing helpful items to those with nothing but a suitcase or backpack to their name.

We’ve talked about this topic before, but perhaps it’s a timely thing to discuss. Let’s review some things you can do to prevent the loss of your digital info and steps you can take to avoid losing any of it forever. We’ll have some tips that you might want to act on sooner rather than later as we’ll never know when disaster might strike. And, if there's anything you’ve done to prepare, please share your tips and experiences.

In addition, the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) just wrapped up in Las Vegas. Lots of new products were demonstrated and announced for 2025. Although we didn’t attend this year, there were many reviews by those that did. We’ll pick some of the more interesting things that might be interest to you.
