Meetings

October 11, 2010

This month marks the beginning of a series of sessions where we'll dive in-depth into a specific topic or application. Rather than just touching the surface of how a certain technology works, we'll spend some time really getting our hands dirty and exploring as many aspects of the application or product as possible during our meeting.

This month, we'll kick it off with something that affects just about all computer users -- Mac, Windows, iPhones, iPads, etc. This is just the simple idea of keeping bits and pieces of notes, web clippings, and other miscellaneous pieces of data organized and easily accessible. We've covered a bunch of products over the years that do this sort of thing (like Notebook, Yojimbo, etc.) This month, we'll focus on Evernote.

Evernote is a cloud-based service that stores your data and makes it accessible on just about any computer that's nearby -- desktop, laptop, iPhone/iPod Touch, iPad and other mobile devices. If you don't know what Evernote is or you've only just heard about it, you'll be in for a real treat. And, even if you do know what Evernote is or you may already be an avid Evernote user, I'm sure you'll still pick up a tip or two.

We'll also go over the new Apple TV, some news, cool iOS apps for iPhone & iPad this month and, of course, we'll have some time for Q&A.

Our meeting this month will be at the same location as last month. We thank Jan Chesne for allowing us to use the rec room at her townhome.

Here are the directions:

Address: 2700 Pearl St. in Santa Monica (Pearl & 27th).

27th St. going south from Pico ends in the entrance to the complex (In front it says Village Park Townhomes).  Go in the entrance, turn right, go over 2 speed bumps (street curves to the left) and park in the parking spaces or anywhere along the road where it doesn't say "No parking."  The rec room is across the road from the parking spaces and slightly south.  The rec room is off Unit 60 (please don't bother any of the residents).

New iPods, Apple TV and iTunes are here!  We'll go over the latest updates in iOS 4.1 and we'll talk about some of items we'll look forward to in iOS 4.2 due later this fall in November.

FileMaker Go is out for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. This is such a cool product and a lot of our LAPUG members have asked about how to get their FileMaker data on their iOS devices -- this is it!  We'll spend some time showing off how it works, what you need to know about making your databases work with it and how to get the most out of it.

We'll also go over some cool iOS apps for iPhone & iPad this month and, of course, we'll have some time for Q&A.
